Endnotes

Sources of Quotes and Historical References

Mixing fact and fiction is a like playing with petrol and matches. In the context of a revered event like the Gallipoli campaign, it’s like playing with petrol and matches in a dynamite factory. In Gallipoli Soup, I have attempted to tell a tale based on a historical sequence of events and build in details from historical references where they fit. The purpose of these end notes is twofold:

Firstly, to give credit to authors whose work has been cited or relied upon for specific details. It is difficult to ensure that such an approach is complete, but I hope my attempt provides greater clarity including a bibliography alone.

Secondly, to give the reader the opportunity to understand, at least to an extent, which parts of what they are reading are based on historical accounts, and facilitate further investigation for those who are so inclined.

Due to publishing limitations, the endnotes were too extensive to include in the printed book. I have made the endnotes available online to ensure that they are accessible to all readers. A more traditional bibliography is included in the printed book.

Spoiler Alert:

This website has been prepared primarily to give readers of Gallipoli Soup access to historical references in the form of end notes by chapter.

Content in these end notes will give away plot details.
